Horse Health Management: Comparative Costs
As a stud owner/manager & or horse owner we are accustomed to the monthly costs of raising an animal, & the percentage of this amount that relates to the animal’s health. For example:
- Farrier [health] - Every 4-6 weeks
- Drenching [health] - Every 4-6 weeks
- Vaccination schedule [health] - On a per annum rota
- Agistment [health as it relates to nutrition & safety] - Monthly
We then deal with the one-off charges:
- Veterinary [health] - As required
- Chiropractic [health] - As required
- Dentist [health] - Annually (generally)
Like vets & chiropractors, Equine Dentists charge on a one-off basis. What many people don’t realise is that the cost of having an Equine Dentist treat your horse is typically only a quarter of the annual cost of having your horse’s feet trimmed every 4-6 weeks.
